Ketika pertama kalinya muncul dalam beberapa bocoran mengenai detail spek maupun desainnya, kini Xpera Sola (dulu dikenal sebagai MT27i Pepper) telah diumumkan secara resmi, sebuah ponsel Android dual core yang diposisikan sebagai penengah antara Xperia U dan Xperia P.
Sony Xperia sola memakai layar 3.7' FWVGA (480x854) Retina display yang memakai teknologi BRAVIA mobile dan kaca tahan gores. Di dalamnya terpasang chipset NovaThor U8500 dengan prosesor 1GHz dual-core, ditambah kamera 5MP yang bisa merekam video 720p plus speaker stereo dengan xLOUD.
Xperia sola memiliki satu fitur menarik baru yang disebut Sony sebagai 'floating touch'. Seorang pengguna cukup menempatkan jari di atas layar tanpa menyentuh kacanya dan jari tersebut akan bertindak seakan-akan seperti sebuah kursor yang bisa digunakan di browser untuk menandai suatu link atau tautan.
Kemampuan ini tidak bisa dijalankan di layar sentuh biasa dan akan berguna untuk halaman web yang didesain untuk antarmuka non-sentuh seperti halnya dari komputer.
Sony menjanjikan untuk memasukkan fitur floating touch ini di beberapa aplikasi lain melalui update software dan akan membukanya untuk dikembangkan bagi para programmer pada aplikasinya.
